Don't judge me by how bad my bad ideas are...
If you’re looking for it, you can find wisdom in unexpected places.
The other day, I heard Matt Damon say: “One of the most profound things that anybody’s ever said to me. When [Ben Affleck] was 20 years old, we started writing “Good Will Hunting” and he said, “Hey, judge me for how good my good ideas are, not how bad my bad ideas are.” And that like to me is the most important thing when you embark on a collaborative process with somebody, it’s like you gotta get the window open to throw every idea in there and like, and, and not be afraid to have [expletive] ideas. Cuz we all have [expletive] ideas and sometimes you need to [say them] and then you iterate on that… then it builds into a good idea. But you have to feel free to [feel] safe express it…. which is exactly what Viola was saying about trust. That’s really what’s at the root of it.” (An excerpt from an interview with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Viola Davis about the movie “Air.”)
“Hey, judge me for how good my good ideas are, not how bad my bad ideas are.” Now there’s a line worth thinking about.
