40 Years of Engaging the Public in Public Policy

National Issues Forums Logo

The National Issues Forum (NIF) is a non-partisan, nationwide, citizen-led network committed to promoting deliberative discussions of issues that impact public life in America.

For 40 years, NIF has partnered with individuals and organizations to bring people together through in-person and online forums – to talk about today’s pressing issues in ways that make working together more possible.

This history touches on the people, events, ideas, and hopes that led to the formation of the National Issues Forums (formerly the Domestic Policy Association). In many ways, it is a story about American citizens who dreamed of a better way of conducting the nation’s business and who believed that citizens should be actively involved in the process.
